UAE passport holders can enter Spain without a visa for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This covers tourism, business meetings, and short-term study. As of 2026, the rules haven't changed — just ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay in Spain
Your UAE passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Spain. Spain does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but some airlines may enforce this — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Spanish airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen area within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready — budget airlines check this at check-in too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Spanish border officers may ask for a hotel reservation, Airbnb confirmation, or a letter from your host. Have a copy on your phone or printed — it speeds up the queue at passport control.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Spain requires visitors to show at least €100 per person per day (minimum €900 total) in cash, bank statements, or credit cards. Border officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to prove it on the spot.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity at check-in. If you have less than 6 months remaining from your entry date, you will not be allowed to board. Double-check your passport expiry before booking.
Schengen 90/180 rule applies
Your 90-day allowance is for the entire Schengen Area, not just Spain. Days spent in France, Germany, Italy, etc., all count toward the same 90-day limit. Use the Schengen calculator to track your days.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Gather your passport (valid 6+ months), return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Save digital copies on your phone and print backups. Keep them in your carry-on, not checked luggage.
2
Arrive at the airport in the UAE
Check in for your flight. The airline will verify your passport validity and may ask for your return ticket. Board your flight to Spain.
3
Go through passport control in Spain
At the airport (Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, etc.), join the 'Non-EU' queue. Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying, and return date. Answer clearly and briefly. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, pick up your bags from the carousel and walk through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're now in Spain.

Frequently asked questions

No. Spanish immigration requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. If it expires sooner, you will be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border.
The 90-day visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, and short-term study only. If you plan to work remotely for a foreign employer, you are technically still a tourist — but Spanish authorities may question you if you mention 'work'. For long-term remote work, consider Spain's Digital Nomad Visa, which requires a separate application.
No. The 90-day visa-free period cannot be extended. You must leave the Schengen area for 90 days before returning. Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, or a ban from re-entering the Schengen zone.
Overstaying is a violation of Schengen rules. You may be fined (typically €500–€1,000), deported, and banned from re-entering the Schengen area for up to 3 years. Always track your days carefully.
If you stay longer than 90 days, you must register with the local police (Oficina de Extranjería) within 30 days of arrival. For stays under 90 days, no registration is needed.
Yes. Spain is part of the Schengen Area. You can enter via France, Germany, Italy, etc., and then travel to Spain. Your 90-day clock starts the moment you enter any Schengen country.
If your layover is in a non-Schengen country (e.g., UK, Turkey, UAE), you will clear immigration in Spain. If your layover is in another Schengen country (e.g., Frankfurt), you clear immigration there, and your 90-day clock starts at that point.
