Mexico entry requirements for Australia passport holders
As of 2025, Australian passport holders do not need a visa for Mexico for tourism, business, or transit stays up to 180 days. The only mandatory entry document is the Forma Migratoria Múltiple (FMM), a tourist card that must be filled out and presented at immigration.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Valid passport Must be valid for the duration of your stay | Your Australian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Mexico. Mexico does not enforce a 6-month validity rule for Australian passport holders, but airlines sometimes check for at least 6 months — check with your carrier before flying. | Required |
| Return or onward ticket Recommended to show at immigration | Immigration officers at Mexico City and Cancún routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready. A bus ticket to Belize or Guatemala also counts. | Recommended |
| Proof of accommodation Recommended to show at immigration | Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a return ticket. Have a hotel booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from a host ready. Airbnb confirmations work fine. | Recommended |
| Proof of funds Recommended to show at immigration | Immigration can ask how you'll support yourself during your stay. Have a bank statement, credit card, or cash equivalent to at least $500 USD available. I've never been asked, but a few travellers report being questioned at Cancún. | Recommended |
