Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for your entire stay in Cyprus
Your Belgian passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Cyprus. Cyprus does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date — just cover the dates you are in the country.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Cyprus
Immigration officers at Larnaca and Paphos airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation, Airbnb confirmation, or a letter of invitation from your host. Border officers occasionally ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement, credit card, or cash available to show you have enough money for your trip. Cyprus does not publish a fixed minimum amount, but having around €50–€100 per day in accessible funds covers you in practice.Recommended
Cyprus is not in Schengen
Even though Belgium is in the EU, Cyprus is not part of the Schengen Area. Your 90-day Schengen limit is separate — a trip to Cyprus does not count against your Schengen days. But the 90/180 rule still applies to Cyprus itself.
Northern Cyprus entry rules differ
If you plan to enter the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), note that it is not recognised by the Republic of Cyprus. Entering via TRNC airports may cause issues when trying to cross the Green Line into the south. Stick to official crossings at Ledra Street or Agios Dometios.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, gather your passport (valid 6+ months), return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Save digital copies on your phone and print backups.
2
Arrive at Larnaca or Paphos airport
Most flights from Belgium land at Larnaca International Airport (LCA) or Paphos Airport (PFO). Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Passport Control'.
3
Queue at passport control
Join the queue for non-EU/EEA passports (even though Belgium is EU, Cyprus uses separate lines for non-Schengen arrivals). Have your passport and return ticket ready.
4
Present your documents
Hand over your passport and, if asked, your return ticket and accommodation booking. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and length of stay. Answer clearly and briefly.
5
Get your passport stamped
The officer will stamp your passport with your entry date. This stamp is your proof of legal entry — keep it safe. You're now free to enter Cyprus.

Frequently asked questions

You can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This is the standard Schengen-area rule, even though Cyprus is not in the Schengen zone. The 90-day clock resets after you leave for 90 days.
No, the visa-free stay is not extendable for tourism. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a temporary residence permit from the Cyprus Migration Department before your 90 days expire. This requires a valid reason like work or study.
No, Belgian passport holders do not need a visa for transit. You can stay in the airport's transit area without a visa. If you plan to leave the airport, you'll need to meet the standard visa-free entry requirements.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Get a new passport before you travel. The 6-month rule is strictly enforced.
It's not a standard requirement for Belgian citizens, but immigration officers can ask. It's wise to carry a credit card or have access to at least €50-100 per day of your stay, just in case.
No, the visa-free entry is for tourism and business meetings only. Remote work for a foreign employer is technically not allowed. If you plan to work, you need a work permit or a digital nomad visa.
Overstaying can result in a fine, a ban from re-entering Cyprus, and a negative record in EU immigration systems. If you realise you've overstayed, contact the Cyprus Migration Department immediately to regularise your status.
