Belgian passport holders can enter Rwanda without a visa for stays up to 30 days. This policy started in 2024, covering tourism, business, or transit. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your arrival date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Belgian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Rwanda. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Rwanda
Immigration officers at Kigali International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot of your booking ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host. Immigration rarely asks for it, but if they do, not having it can mean a delay at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or cash handy — around $200 USD equivalent per day of stay is a safe benchmark. Officers rarely ask, but it's a standard visa-free entry requirement on the books.Recommended
Visa-free since 2024
Rwanda extended visa-free travel to all African Union passport holders and several other nationalities, including Belgium, in 2024. This policy is straightforward — no application, no fee, just show up with a valid passport.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Immigration officers will check that your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. If it's close to expiry, renew before you go. A denied entry at Kigali airport is a hassle you don't want.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from arrival), print or save your return ticket and first night accommodation confirmation. Consider getting an eSIM or local SIM so you're connected on landing.
2
Arrive at Kigali International Airport (KGL)
Most flights land at Kigali International. Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Present your passport at immigration
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your visa-free eligibility, ask about your stay (purpose, duration, where you're staying), and may request your return ticket. Answer clearly and briefly.
4
Receive your entry stamp
Once approved, the officer stamps your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. Check the stamp for the correct date before leaving the counter.
5
Collect luggage and exit
Proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Rwanda. Keep your passport handy — you may need it for hotel check-in or local ID checks.
