What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-Visa online
Go to the Brazilian government's e-Visa portal (gov.br/mre). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the visa fee (around $40–$80 depending on nationality) with a credit card. Processing usually takes 5–15 business days.
2
Prepare your documents
Print or save your visa approval email. Book your return flight and first night accommodation. Take a screenshot of each. If you bought travel insurance, save the policy number and emergency contact.
3
Arrive at a Brazilian airport
You'll land at Guarulhos (GRU) in São Paulo, Galeão (GIG) in Rio, or Brasília (BSB). Follow signs to 'Passport Control' (Polícia Federal). Have your passport, visa approval, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport — check the stamp says the correct entry date.
4
Exit the airport
After passport control, collect your luggage and walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no goods to declare. If you're carrying cash over R$10,000 (or equivalent), use the red channel.

Frequently asked questions

No. Brazil does not offer visa on arrival for Brunei nationals. You must apply for an e-Visa online before you travel.
Processing usually takes 5 to 15 business days. Apply at least 3 weeks before your trip to be safe. You can check the status on the same portal where you applied.
The fee varies by nationality but is typically around $40 to $80 USD. You pay online by credit card during the application. The fee is non-refundable if your visa is denied.
You must renew your passport before applying for the visa. Brazil requires 6 months of validity from your entry date. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding or entry.
Brazil does not require a yellow fever vaccine for entry from Brunei, but it is recommended if you plan to visit rural or jungle areas (like the Amazon). Some neighbouring countries may require it if you travel overland. Check with a travel clinic.
The e-Visa typically allows a single entry for up to 90 days. Extensions are possible but must be requested at a Polícia Federal office in Brazil before your current stay expires. There is a fee, and approval is not guaranteed.
Overstaying results in a fine of about R$100 per day (up to a cap). You'll have to pay it before leaving. Overstays can also affect future visa applications. Always leave before your visa expires.
