Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Canadian passport needs to be valid only for the period you plan to stay in Paraguay. Airlines sometimes enforce the 6-month rule, but Paraguay's immigration officers do not — they just need it to cover your visit.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Paraguay
Immigration officers at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a bus ticket to a neighboring country ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Not always requested, but some officers ask where you're staying. A printed hotel confirmation or a letter from a host with their address and phone number covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Officers occasionally ask how much cash or credit you carry. Have a bank statement or credit card with a reasonable limit — no specific minimum amount is published, but around $500 USD equivalent is a safe benchmark.Recommended
No visa needed — just show up
Canadians get 90 days visa-free. No application, no fee, no embassy visit. Just a valid passport and a return ticket.
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. Airlines check this before boarding. If it's close, renew first.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU) in Asunción
Most Canadian travellers fly into ASU. After deplaning, follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration). The queue is usually short — 10–20 minutes. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
2
Present your passport and supporting documents
Hand your passport to the immigration officer. They may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day entry. No fee.
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, grab your bags from the carousel. Customs is usually a green/red channel system. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel. Officers rarely stop tourists.
4
Exit the airport
Once past customs, you're free to leave. Taxis and ride-shares are available outside. Keep your passport and entry stamp safe — you'll need it when leaving.
