Apply online before travel
Apply for an Azerbaijan eVisa at evisa.gov.az. The application takes about 10 minutes — you need a scanned passport page and a digital photo. Processing usually takes 3 business days, but pay the extra fee for urgent processing (3 hours) if you're in a rush. Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your Swiss passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Azerbaijan. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by law, but airlines sometimes enforce 3 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Azerbaijan
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your departure within the eVisa's validity period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from your host. Officers rarely check it, but having it avoids delays if they ask.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing at least $50 per day of your stay. Officers almost never ask for it, but it's a legal requirement.Recommended
Register if staying more than 15 days
If you stay longer than 15 days, you must register with the State Migration Service. Hotels do this automatically, but if you're in a private apartment, you must do it yourself. The fine for not registering is 300–400 AZN (about $175–$235 USD).

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.gov.az. Fill in your passport details, travel dates, and upload a passport-style photo. Pay the fee (approx. $25 USD) by credit card. You'll receive a confirmation email with a reference number.
2
Wait for approval
Processing takes up to 3 business days. You'll get the eVisa by email as a PDF. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive. Print a copy and save it on your phone.
3
Arrive at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD)
Most Swiss travellers fly into Baku. At immigration, present your passport and printed eVisa. The officer will stamp your passport. Have your return ticket and hotel booking ready in case they ask.
4

If you stay longer than 15 days, your hotel or host must register you with the State Migration Service. If you're in a private apartment, you need to do this yourself at the nearest migration office. Failure to register can result in a fine.
