Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Swiss passport must be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Macau. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Macau immigration, but airlines may enforce a 6-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Macau
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — if you don't have one, you may be refused entry.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital hotel reservation for your entire stay. If staying with a friend, have their name, address, and phone number written down — officers sometimes ask for this at immigration.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to at least 5,000 MOP (around 600 CHF) in cash, credit cards, or bank statements. Immigration rarely checks this for Swiss passport holders, but it's better to have proof ready.Recommended
No arrival card needed
Unlike many Asian destinations, Macau does not require an arrival declaration form. Just walk up to immigration with your passport.
Overstaying is costly
The 90-day visa-free period cannot be extended. Overstaying even a day can result in a fine of up to 500 MOP per day and possible deportation.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Macau International Airport or ferry terminal
You'll go through immigration at the airport (MFM) or at the Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal if coming from Hong Kong. Join the 'Foreign Passports' queue.
2

3
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim (if flying) then customs. No arrival declaration form is needed.
