What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.gov.az, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee (around $20–$25 USD). Processing usually takes 3–5 business days, but you can pay extra for urgent (3 hours).
2
Receive and print the eVisa
Once approved, you'll get a PDF by email. Print at least one copy and also save it on your phone. The eVisa is linked to your passport number, so you don't need to carry the physical document, but having a printout speeds things up.
3
Arrive at Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport
When you land, follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration. Have your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket ready. The officer will scan your passport and stamp you in. The whole process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
4
Show accommodation and onward ticket if asked
Immigration may ask for proof of where you're staying and your departure flight. Have your hotel booking and return ticket screenshot easily accessible on your phone or printed.

Frequently asked questions

Standard processing takes 3–5 business days. If you need it faster, you can pay extra for urgent processing (usually 3 hours). Apply at least a week before your trip to be safe.
No, the eVisa is not extendable. You must leave before the 30-day validity expires. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to exit and re-enter with a new visa.
A digital copy on your phone is usually accepted, but printing a copy is safer — some officers prefer paper. Keep both.
You'll be denied boarding or entry. Renew your passport before applying for the eVisa. The 6-month validity is strictly enforced.
Yes, the eVisa is valid for entry at all international border crossings, including land borders from Georgia, Iran, Russia, and Turkey. The same rules apply — show your passport and eVisa.
No, it's not a requirement for the visa application itself. But it's strongly recommended because medical costs in Azerbaijan can be high, and some airlines may ask for proof of insurance before boarding.
Rejections are rare but can happen if your passport details don't match or if you have a criminal record. You'll get a refund of the visa fee minus a small processing charge. You can reapply after correcting the issue.
