Schengen area rules
Denmark is part of the Schengen area. Your 90-day visa-free stay applies to all 26 Schengen countries combined. If you've already spent 30 days in France, you only have 60 days left for Denmark and the rest of Schengen.
No visa needed — just show up
Chileans have one of the strongest passports for European travel. No visa application, no fees, no paperwork. Just a valid passport and a return ticket.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Copenhagen Airport (CPH)
After landing, follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for EU/EEA and non-EU travellers. As a Chilean, you'll use the non-EU queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will check your passport, ask about your trip (purpose, length of stay, where you're staying), and stamp your passport. The whole process usually takes 2-5 minutes.
2
Entering Denmark via other airports or land borders
At Billund, Aalborg, or other airports, the process is the same. If arriving by train from Germany (e.g., at Padborg or Copenhagen Central Station), you'll pass through a Schengen border check. Have your passport and onward ticket ready. Officers may ask about your itinerary.
3
During your stay
You can travel freely within the Schengen area (26 countries) for up to 90 days total. Keep your passport with you at all times. If you lose it, contact the Chilean embassy in Copenhagen immediately.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 90-day visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, or family visits only. You cannot take paid employment or start a business. For work, you need a residence and work permit, which you must apply for before arriving.
No, extensions are not granted for visa-free stays. You must leave the Schengen area before day 90. Overstaying can result in a ban from re-entering for up to 5 years.
No, the same visa-free rules apply for Chileans. You can visit Greenland and the Faroe Islands for up to 90 days without a visa. However, note that these territories are not part of the Schengen area, so your 90-day clock for Denmark proper is separate. If you travel from Denmark to Greenland, you'll go through a passport check.
Report the loss immediately to the local police (call 114 for non-emergencies). Then contact the Chilean Embassy in Copenhagen (Dronningens Tværgade 9, 1302 København K, +45 33 12 00 55) to apply for an emergency travel document. This can take 1-3 working days. You'll need a police report and two passport photos.
Not usually for Chileans, but immigration officers can ask. It's wise to have a credit card or bank statement showing you can support yourself (around 500 DKK per day). If you're staying with friends/family, a letter of invitation can help.
Temporary passports are generally accepted for visa-free travel, but the 6-month validity rule still applies. A damaged passport (torn pages, water damage, missing cover) may be refused. If in doubt, get a new passport before travelling.
Overstaying is a serious violation. You may be fined, deported, and banned from re-entering the Schengen area for up to 5 years. If you have a genuine emergency (e.g., medical), contact the Danish Immigration Service before your visa-free period ends to discuss options.
