What happens at the border

1
Fill out the arrival form
On the plane or at the border, you'll get a Cambodia Arrival/Departure card and a visa application form. Fill both out in capital letters. Keep the small departure card safe — you'll need it when you leave.
2
Queue at the Visa on Arrival counter
At Phnom Penh (PNH) or Siem Reap (REP) airports, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' before passport control. Hand over your passport, completed form, photo, and $30 USD. The officer will process it and give you a receipt.
3
Proceed to passport control
Take your passport (now with the visa sticker) and the departure card to the immigration officer. They'll stamp you in. Keep the departure card in your passport.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, grab your bags and walk through customs. Green channel if you have nothing to declare, red if you do.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, most major land crossings like Poipet (from Thailand) and Bavet (from Vietnam) offer visa on arrival. The process is the same: fill out the form, pay $30, get your visa. But some smaller crossings may not offer it — check the specific border beforehand.
There are photo booths at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airports near the visa counter. They cost about $2-3. But it's easier to bring your own.
Yes, you can extend a tourist visa once for an additional 30 days. Go to the Immigration Department in Phnom Penh or use a visa agency (common and reliable). Cost is around $45-50. Do it before your initial 30 days expire.
No. The e-visa is applied for online before travel and costs $36. It's valid for 30 days and can only be used at certain entry points (major airports and a few land borders). The visa on arrival is cheaper ($30) and accepted at more crossings.
You'll be fined $10 per day at immigration when you leave. Pay it at the airport before passport control. Overstaying by more than 30 days can lead to a ban, so don't push it.
Immigration officers sometimes ask for proof of onward travel. Having a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Cambodia is enough. If you don't have one, you can book a refundable ticket or use a service like OnwardTicket.
Technically yes, but you may be asked to show a return or onward ticket at check-in or immigration. If you're planning to leave by land, have a bus or train booking ready.
