What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (or land border)
Join the queue for non-EU/non-Schengen passports. Have your passport and any supporting documents ready. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp it, and usually ask your purpose of visit and length of stay.
2
Present documents at passport control
Hand over your passport. If asked, state 'tourism' or 'business' and the number of days you plan to stay. The officer may ask for your return ticket or accommodation proof — have them accessible on your phone.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter. If the stamp is unclear or the date is wrong, ask for correction immediately.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim (if any), then customs. No additional forms or declarations are needed for standard tourist visits.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave Serbia before the 90th day. Overstaying can result in fines, a ban, or difficulty re-entering. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a temporary residence permit before your 90 days expire — this requires a valid reason (e.g., work, study, family reunion) and is processed by the local police station.
If you stay in a hotel, the hotel registers you automatically. If you stay in a private residence (e.g., with friends or Airbnb), the host must register you with the local police within 24 hours of your arrival. This is a legal requirement. If the host doesn't do it, you could face a fine. Ask your host to confirm they've done it.
Technically, the rule is 6 months validity from your entry date. Border officers may still let you in if your passport is valid for the entire stay, but it's risky. Airlines may deny boarding if your passport doesn't meet the 6-month rule. Best to renew before travel.
No. Chileans do not need a visa, eVisa, or any pre-arrival registration for stays up to 90 days. Just show up with your valid passport. No arrival declaration or online form is needed.
You must apply for a temporary residence permit at the local police station in Serbia before your 90-day visa-free period ends. This requires a valid reason (employment, study, family reunification, etc.) and supporting documents. Processing can take weeks, so start early. Overstaying without a permit is illegal.
The visa-free regime is for tourism, business meetings, and transit. Remote work for a foreign employer is generally tolerated for short stays, but it's a grey area. If you plan to work for a Serbian employer or stay long-term, you need a work permit and residence permit. For a few weeks of remote work, most travellers do it without issues, but officially it's not permitted.
By law, you must carry your passport (or a certified copy) with you at all times. Police can ask for ID. A photocopy of your passport's main page and entry stamp is usually accepted. Keep the original in a hotel safe and carry the copy.
