Cash only — no cards
The visa fee must be paid in US dollars cash. ATMs at the airport are often out of order or charge high fees. Bring crisp, undamaged $50 bills — old or torn notes may be rejected.
E-visa alternative
If you want to skip the arrival queue, apply for an e-visa at least 3 business days before travel. Same $50 fee, but you'll go straight to immigration on arrival.

Arrive at the airport
At Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' after passport control. There's a dedicated counter.

Fill out the application form
You'll be handed a short form asking for basic details: name, passport number, flight info, and where you're staying. Fill it out while queuing.

Pay the fee and get your visa
Hand over your passport, completed form, and cash. The officer will process the visa sticker and paste it into your passport. The whole thing takes 5–10 minutes if the line is short.

Proceed to immigration
With the visa in your passport, walk to the immigration officer who will stamp you in. Keep your return ticket and accommodation confirmation handy in case they ask.
