Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Cameroonian passport holders need an eVisa to enter Kenya. Apply at the official eTA portal — the process takes about 15 minutes and costs $30.51 USD. Approval usually comes within 2 business days, but apply at least a week before your flight to be safe.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Kenya does not enforce a 6-month validity rule — just make sure it covers your entire stay. Airlines may still ask for 6 months, so check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Kenya
Immigration officers at JKIA routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Kenya ready. If you're overlanding, a bus ticket or ferry booking works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you're a first-time visitor. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their contact details. A simple booking.com printout is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or a credit card with a decent limit. Immigration rarely asks for a specific amount, but having $500 USD equivalent in cash or card helps. ATMs at JKIA dispense Kenyan shillings at fair rates.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine required
Kenya requires proof of yellow fever vaccination if you're arriving from Cameroon. Carry your yellow card — immigration may ask for it.
eTA is not a visa
The eTA is an electronic travel authorization, not a visa sticker. It's valid for single entry and allows stays up to 90 days. Apply at www.etakenya.go.ke.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eTA online
Go to www.etakenya.go.ke and complete the application. You'll need your passport details, travel dates, and accommodation info. Pay the fee (around $30 USD) with a credit or debit card. Approval usually comes within 1-3 business days.
2
Pack your documents
Print or save on your phone: your eTA approval, passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation. Keep them easily accessible in your carry-on.
3
Arrive at JKIA (Nairobi) or Moi International (Mombasa)
At immigration, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and eTA approval. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly. You'll get a stamp allowing entry for up to 90 days.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're free to go.
