What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-visa online
Go to https://evisa.gov.mz/ and complete the application form. Upload a scanned copy of your passport bio page, a passport-style photo, and any required supporting documents. Pay the fee online and submit. Processing typically takes 3-5 business days, so apply at least 2 weeks before your trip.
2
Receive and print your e-visa
Once approved, you'll receive your e-visa by email. Print a physical copy — you'll need to show it at check-in and at immigration in Mozambique. Keep a digital backup on your phone as well.
3

Frequently asked questions

Processing usually takes 3-5 business days, but it can take longer during peak times. Apply at least 2 weeks before your departure to be safe. The official portal is https://evisa.gov.mz/.
No, the e-visa is not extendable. You must leave Mozambique within 30 days of arrival. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to exit and re-enter with a new e-visa, but that's not guaranteed to work.
You will be denied entry and sent back on the next available flight. There is no visa-on-arrival for Chinese passport holders. Don't risk it — get the e-visa before you fly.
Only if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission (e.g., parts of Africa or South America). If you're flying directly from China, you don't need it. But if you're connecting through a risk country, you must have the certificate.
The fee varies depending on the type of visa and processing speed. Check the official e-visa portal for the current fee. Expect to pay around $50-100 USD for a standard tourist e-visa.
The e-visa is valid for entry at major airports and land border posts. However, it's safest to enter through Maputo International Airport (MPM) or other main entry points. Some remote border posts may not have the systems to process e-visas, so stick to well-known crossings.
Have your passport, printed e-visa, return ticket, accommodation booking, and proof of funds ready. The officer may ask to see all of them, so keep them together in your hand luggage.
