What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Brussels Airport or other Schengen entry point
You'll land at Brussels Airport (BRU) or Charleroi (CRL). Follow signs to 'Passport Control' or 'EU Citizens' — as a Cypriot, you use the EU/EEA lane. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your passport to the border officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask a few questions: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying. Answer honestly and briefly. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date.
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After passport control, head to baggage claim. Then walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no goods to declare. You're now in Belgium.

Frequently asked questions

You can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This applies to the entire Schengen area, so days spent in other Schengen countries count toward your 90-day limit.
No. The visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, or family visits. If you want to work or study, you need a separate work or study permit. Contact the Belgian embassy in Nicosia.
For stays under 90 days, no registration is required. If you stay longer than 90 days, you must register at the local commune (town hall) within 8 days of arrival.
Renew your passport before traveling. Border officers will deny entry if your passport has less than 6 months of validity remaining from your entry date.
Extensions are not granted for tourism. If you need to stay longer due to an emergency, contact the Immigration Office (Dienst Vreemdelingenzaken) in Brussels. Overstaying can result in fines or a re-entry ban.
It is not mandatory at the border, but it is strongly recommended. Medical costs in Belgium are high, and insurance covers unexpected illness or injury. Some airlines may ask for proof of insurance before boarding.
Stay calm. Ask the officer for the reason in writing. You have the right to contact your embassy (Cyprus Embassy in Brussels, +32 2 735 70 10). They can assist but cannot override the border officer's decision.
