Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrivalYou do not need to apply for a visa before traveling; you can get one when you arrive in Mozambique.
Single entry, 30 days
Citizens of Cyprus can obtain a visa on arrival at Maputo International Airport and other designated ports of entry. The visa is valid for a single entry and a stay of up to 30 days. Cost is approximately 650 MZN (payable in local currency or USD). Have the exact fee in cash ready.Required
Passport validityIf your passport expires sooner, you may be denied entry. Renew your passport if needed before traveling.
6 months beyond intended stay
Your Cyprus passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Mozambique.Required
Blank passport pagesThe immigration officer needs a clean page to affix the visa sticker.
At least 1 blank page
Your passport must have at least 1 blank visa page (not the endorsement pages) for the visa-on-arrival sticker.Required
Return or onward ticketAirlines and immigration may check that you have a way out of the country.
Proof of departure
You must present a confirmed return or onward flight ticket showing departure from Mozambique within the allowed stay period.Required
Proof of sufficient fundsCarry enough money or a credit card to cover your expenses; it's not always checked but can be requested.
No fixed amount specified
While no specific amount is published, you should be able to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay (e.g., cash, credit card, or bank statement). Immigration may ask for proof.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccinationIf you've been in a yellow fever country before Mozambique, you need the vaccination card.
If arriving from endemic area
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. Cyprus is not a risk country, but if you have recently traveled to an endemic area, you must show the certificate.Required
Arrival declarationYou do not need to fill out any online or paper arrival declaration.
Not required
No arrival declaration form is needed for Cyprus passport holders entering Mozambique. Not required
Cash is king at the border
The visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash — no cards, no mobile payments. Bring crisp USD bills (no older than 2009, no tears). ATMs at Maputo airport are unreliable and charge high fees.
Visa on arrival is not extendable
You get a fixed stay (usually 30 days) and cannot extend it. Plan your trip accordingly. Overstaying can lead to fines or problems at the border when leaving.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the visa on arrival counter
At Maputo International Airport (MPM) or other entry points, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. Queue at the counter — there's usually a separate line from the main passport control.
2
Submit your documents and pay
Hand over your passport, completed arrival card (given on the plane or at the counter), and your return ticket if asked. Pay the visa fee in cash (USD preferred). The officer will process and stamp your passport.
3
Proceed to passport control
After getting the visa, go to the main passport control queue. Show your passport with the fresh visa. They may ask a few questions (purpose of visit, where staying). Answer briefly and honestly.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
Head to baggage claim, then customs. Usually straightforward — just walk through unless you have something to declare.

Frequently asked questions

The fee is typically around $50–$80 USD, but it can vary. Pay in cash — USD is easiest. Mozambican metical is also accepted but you'll get a worse rate. Don't rely on cards or ATMs at the airport.
No — the visa on arrival is not extendable. You get the standard stay (usually 30 days) and must leave before it expires. Overstaying can result in fines or trouble at the border.
Visa on arrival is available at most major land borders, including Ressano Garcia (from South Africa) and Zobue (from Malawi). The process is the same — queue, pay, get stamped. Have cash ready.
If you're arriving from or have recently been in a country with yellow fever, you'll need the vaccine certificate. Cyprus is not a risk country, so you're fine unless you've traveled elsewhere in Africa or South America recently.
No — cash only. ATMs at Maputo airport are unreliable and often charge high fees. Bring enough USD to cover the visa fee and a bit extra for a taxi or snacks.
Usually 15–30 minutes at Maputo airport, but can be longer during peak hours (late afternoon/evening when multiple international flights arrive). Land borders are faster but still expect a short wait.
You will be denied entry. The 6-month rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling — it's not worth the risk.
