Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the full 90 days you plan to stay in Albania. Airlines at Prague check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Albania
Immigration at Tirana Airport routinely asks for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — a bus ticket to Montenegro or a flight to Greece works fine.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers sometimes ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation email or a letter from a host with their address and phone number covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers may ask how you'll fund your stay. Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least €100 per day of your trip.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines and border officers will check that your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. If it's close to expiring, renew before you go. No exceptions.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save screenshots of your passport, return ticket, accommodation booking, and insurance on your phone. If you lose your documents, these copies make replacement much easier.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before you travel
Check your passport is valid for 6+ months from your entry date. Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of both on your phone. Get travel insurance and a local eSIM if you want.
2
Arrive at the border
At Tirana International Airport (TIA) or any land border crossing, join the queue for non-Albanian passports. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. For land borders from Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, or Greece, the process is the same.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer will likely ask: 'How long are you staying?' and 'Where are you staying?' Answer clearly. They may also ask to see your return ticket or accommodation confirmation. Be polite and direct.
4
Receive your entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the entry date and the maximum stay allowed (90 days). Check the stamp before walking away. If it's wrong (e.g., fewer days), ask for correction immediately.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. There's usually nothing to declare unless you're carrying large amounts of cash or restricted goods.
