Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Sri Lanka ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization)Without an approved ETA, you will be denied boarding or entry.
Visa required – apply online before travel
Czech citizens must obtain an ETA before flying to Sri Lanka. Apply at the official ETA website (https://www.eta.gov.lk) at least a few days before departure. The fee is $50–53 USD depending on the processing tier, and approval typically takes from a few hours to 1–2 business days. The ETA permits a stay of up to 30 days and is not extendable.Required
Passport validityIf your passport expires sooner, renew it before applying for the ETA.
At least 6 months beyond your intended stay
Your Czech passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Sri Lanka. Check your passport's expiry date well before booking.Required
Blank passport pagesA blank page is needed for the stamp – make sure there is one available.
At least 1 blank page for entry stamp
Your passport must have at least one completely blank page (not counting the endorsement pages) for the Sri Lankan immigration officer to affix the entry stamp.Required
Return or onward ticketYou must show you intend to leave before your visa expires.
Proof of departure from Sri Lanka
Immigration may ask to see a confirmed return or onward flight ticket showing you will leave Sri Lanka within the 30-day ETA validity. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of sufficient fundsCarry proof of funds in case an officer asks – it's better to be safe.
For your stay
Although not always checked, be prepared to show evidence of sufficient funds (e.g., bank statement, credit card) to cover your expenses during your stay in Sri Lanka.Recommended
Accommodation detailsImmigration may ask where you are staying – have the details handy.
Hotel booking or address of stay
Have the name and address of your first hotel or place of stay in Sri Lanka ready to provide on the arrival form or if asked by immigration.Recommended
Arrival declarationYou don't need to fill out any extra arrival form for Sri Lanka.
Not required for Czech citizens
Sri Lanka does not require a separate arrival declaration for Czech passport holders. No additional form is needed beyond the ETA and standard immigration procedures. Not required
Apply early — but not too early
The ETA is usually approved within hours, but don't leave it to the last minute. Apply at least 3-5 days before your flight. Also, the ETA is typically valid for 6 months from the date of issue, so you can apply a few weeks ahead without worry.
Don't overstay — it's expensive
Your 30-day ETA is not extendable. Overstaying can lead to fines of around $25-50 per day, and in serious cases, deportation. Set a reminder on your phone for your departure date.
Use the official ETA website only
There are many third-party sites that charge extra fees for the same service. The official portal is https://www.eta.gov.lk — use it to avoid overpaying or falling for scams.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your ETA online
Go to https://www.eta.gov.lk and fill out the application. Choose the tourist ETA (30 days). Pay the fee ($50-53 USD) with a credit/debit card. You'll get a confirmation email — keep it.
2
Wait for approval
Processing usually takes a few hours to 1-2 business days. Apply at least a few days before your flight to be safe. Check your email (and spam folder) for the approval.
3
Print or save your ETA approval
Print a copy of the approved ETA or save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and possibly at immigration in Sri Lanka.
4
Arrive at the airport
At Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in Colombo, follow the signs to 'Immigration' or 'E-Visa' counters. Have your passport, ETA approval, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport for 30 days.
5
Enjoy your stay — but don't overstay
Your 30-day stay starts on the day you arrive. Overstaying even by a day can result in fines or trouble at departure. If you need more time, you can't extend this ETA — you'd have to leave and reapply.
