Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Montenegro. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by law, but airlines may check for at least 3 months validity.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Montenegro
Immigration officers at Podgorica and Tivat airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Officers can ask for evidence of sufficient funds. Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to roughly €50 per day of your stay.Recommended
6-month passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines and border officers check this. If your passport expires within 6 months of your entry date, you'll be denied boarding or entry. No exceptions.
Keep a copy of your documents
Take photos of your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation. Store them in your phone and email. If your passport is lost or stolen, this makes replacement much easier.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
At Podgorica Airport, Tivat Airport, or any land border crossing, join the queue for non-Montenegrin passports. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer briefly and honestly. They may also ask to see your return ticket or accommodation confirmation.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before walking away — if it shows a shorter period, ask for clarification.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, collect your bags from the carousel and proceed through customs. There are no additional formalities for Czech citizens.

Frequently asked questions

No, the 90-day visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave Montenegro before day 90. Overstaying can result in fines, a ban, or both. If you need to stay longer, you'd need to apply for a temporary residence permit before your 90 days expire — but that's a separate process.
You'll likely be denied boarding by the airline or entry at the border. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling.
No, there is no arrival declaration requirement for Czech citizens. You don't need to register with any authority after entering Montenegro.
No, the 90-day visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, or short visits only. Working or studying requires a separate visa or permit. If you plan to work remotely for a foreign employer, that's generally fine, but check with the Montenegrin embassy if you're unsure.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You may face a fine (typically €50–€200 depending on the duration), a ban from re-entering Montenegro for a period, or both. Always leave before day 90.
No, it's not a legal requirement for Czech citizens. However, it's strongly recommended because medical costs in Montenegro can be high. A simple hospital visit for an infection or injury can cost hundreds of euros.
Yes, you can enter by road from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, or Albania. The same visa-free rules apply. At land borders, queues can be longer during peak season — expect 30–60 minutes at busy crossings like Debeli Brijeg (from Croatia) or Dobrakovo (from Serbia).
