Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Mongolia. Airlines and immigration officers at Chinggis Khaan International Airport check this at check-in and on arrival.Required
Return or onward ticket
Recommended to show at check-in
Immigration in Ulaanbaatar rarely asks for a return ticket, but your airline at departure from Prague or a connecting hub may require proof of onward travel before they issue your boarding pass.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to have handy
Border officers occasionally ask for a hotel booking or a letter of invitation from a host. Have a printed or digital copy of your first night's reservation ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to show if asked
Mongolia does not enforce a fixed minimum amount, but carrying around $50–$100 USD per day in cash or a credit card statement helps if an officer questions your ability to cover expenses.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Mongolian immigration will deny entry if your passport has less than 6 months validity from your arrival date. This is non-negotiable. Check your passport now, not at the airport.
No visa needed, but be prepared
You don't need to apply for anything before you go. Just have your passport, onward ticket, and accommodation details ready. The process at Ulaanbaatar airport is straightforward and quick.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Ulaanbaatar airport or land border
Most visitors fly into Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN). You'll join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp you in, and you're done. The whole process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
2
Show your onward ticket if asked
Immigration officers sometimes ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed copy or a screenshot of your return/onward ticket on your phone. If you don't have one, you may be questioned or denied entry.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, grab your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. If you're carrying more than $2,000 USD in cash, you need to declare it.
