Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
You need an eVisa to enter Uganda. Apply at the official Uganda eVisa portal — visas.immigration.go.ug. Processing takes 2–3 business days, so apply at least a week before your flight. The visa is single-entry and valid for 90 days from issue.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
6 months validity required
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Uganda. Airlines at Algiers check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Show proof of departure
Immigration officers at Entebbe Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or the booking confirmation on your phone. If you plan to overland exit, carry a bus or ferry booking.Required
Yellow fever vaccination certificate
Mandatory for entry
Uganda requires a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate for all arriving passengers. You will be asked to show it at immigration — no certificate means you may be vaccinated on the spot or denied entry. Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.Required
Apply early — don't wait until the last minute
Processing times can vary, and there's no visa-on-arrival. Apply at least 7 days before your flight to avoid stress.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa approval, passport bio page, and return ticket as PDFs on your phone. Also print paper copies — phone batteries die, and some officials prefer paper.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Uganda immigration portal (visas.immigration.go.ug). Fill in the application, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50 for a single-entry tourist visa) with a credit card. Processing takes 2–5 business days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get a PDF by email. Print it and also save a copy on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and upon arrival.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport
Most flights land at Entebbe. After deplaning, follow signs to 'Immigration'. Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport, eVisa approval, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in. The whole process usually takes 15–30 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel. Outside, you'll find taxis, ride-hailing apps, and hotel shuttles.
