United Kingdom entry requirements for Spain passport holders
Spanish passport holders can visit the United Kingdom for tourism, business, or family visits without a visa. Stays are allowed up to 180 days per visit. This rule has applied since the Brexit transition ended in 2021.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Valid passport Must be valid for the duration of your stay | Your Spanish passport only needs to be valid for the entire time you're in the UK. No 6-month validity rule applies for UK entry. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you'll be denied boarding. | Required |
| ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) Required for visa-exempt visitors since January 2025 | Apply online at gov.uk/apply-uk-visa before you fly. The ETA costs £10, is valid for 2 years, and covers multiple trips. Approval usually comes within minutes — but apply at least 48 hours before departure to be safe.Apply for ETA | Required |
| Return or onward ticket Immigration officers routinely check this | UK Border Force officers ask for proof of onward travel at passport control. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready. Airlines also check this before issuing a boarding pass. | Required |
| Proof of accommodation Hotel booking or host invitation | Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel reservation, Airbnb confirmation, or a letter from your host. UK immigration officers ask for this regularly, especially if you're staying for more than a few days. | Recommended |
| Proof of funds Show you can support yourself during your stay | Have bank statements or a credit card statement showing available funds. UK officers don't publish a specific minimum amount, but you should be able to cover accommodation, food, and transport for your entire stay. Cash or traveller's cheques are rarely asked for. | Recommended |
