Apply early — slots fill up fast
The Swiss embassy in Addis Ababa often has limited appointment slots. Book your visa appointment at least 4–6 weeks before your planned departure. During peak season (June–September), wait times can be longer.
No border control between Switzerland and Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein is in a customs union with Switzerland. You can cross by car, bus, or train without showing your passport. But your Schengen visa must be valid — Swiss border police do random checks.

Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents: passport, completed application form, passport photos, flight itinerary, hotel bookings, bank statements, travel insurance, and proof of employment or leave. Make photocopies of everything.

Book an appointment at the Swiss embassy
Go to the Swiss embassy in Addis Ababa (Bole Road, near the UNECA compound). Appointments are mandatory — book online or by phone. Expect a wait of 2–4 weeks for an available slot.

Attend the visa interview
Show up on time with all original documents and photocopies. The officer will ask about your trip purpose, itinerary, and ties to Ethiopia. Answer honestly. You'll also give biometrics (fingerprints and photo).

Standard processing takes 15 calendar days. It can take up to 45 days if additional checks are needed. You'll be notified when your passport is ready for pickup.

Enter Liechtenstein
Fly into Zurich or another Schengen airport. At passport control, show your passport with the visa sticker. Have your return ticket and accommodation details ready. Liechtenstein has no border controls with Switzerland — you cross by road or train.
