Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Uganda eVisa
Apply for your Uganda eVisa at the official portal before travel. Processing takes 2–5 business days, and you'll receive an approval letter by email. Print that letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Entebbe will stamp you in based on it.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Ethiopian passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your date of entry into Uganda. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration officers at Entebbe enforce it strictly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uganda
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they want to see you're leaving within the eVisa validity period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Uganda. Immigration may ask where you're staying, and having it ready speeds things up.Recommended
Proof of funds
Evidence of sufficient money for your stay
Have bank statements or a credit card showing you can cover your expenses. Immigration rarely asks, but if they do, showing $200–$300 in available funds is usually enough.Recommended
eVisa required — no visa on arrival
Ethiopian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Uganda. You must apply and receive approval before you travel. Airlines may also deny boarding without a valid eVisa.
Yellow fever vaccine required
You must show proof of yellow fever vaccination (yellow card) upon arrival. Without it, you may be quarantined or denied entry. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to visas.immigration.go.ug, fill out the application, upload your passport photo and passport data page, and pay the fee (around $50 USD). Processing takes 2–5 business days.
2
Print your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll receive a PDF via email. Print it out and keep a digital copy on your phone. You'll need to show it at immigration in Entebbe or any land border.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Visa/Immigration'. Hand over your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in. Expect a short queue — 10–30 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel, then walk through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel.
