Finnish passport holders can enter Belgium without a visa for short stays. You can travel freely within the Schengen Area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This has been the case since Belgium joined the Schengen Agreement.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Finnish passport needs to be valid for your entire stay in Belgium. Schengen rules do not require 6 months of validity beyond departure, but your airline may enforce it — check with Finnair, Brussels Airlines, or whichever carrier you fly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Brussels Airport and other Schengen entry points routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking, train ticket, or bus reservation showing you leave within 90 days.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, hostel booking, or an invitation letter from your host in Belgium. Officers rarely ask for it for Finnish passport holders, but having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card available. Belgian immigration does not enforce a fixed amount for Finnish nationals, but showing at least €45 per day of stay is a safe benchmark if questioned.Recommended
Schengen zone rules apply
Your 90-day allowance is for the entire Schengen Area, not just Belgium. If you've already spent time in France, Germany, or other Schengen countries, that counts toward your 90-day limit.
No visa needed
Finnish passport holders enjoy visa-free travel to Belgium for stays up to 90 days. Just make sure your passport is valid and you have your return ticket handy.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Belgian border
You'll enter through any Schengen airport (Brussels Airport, Brussels South Charleroi, or Antwerp). Since Finland is also Schengen, there are no passport checks on flights from Helsinki or other Schengen airports. If arriving from outside Schengen, join the 'EU/EEA/CH' queue.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your Finnish passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, where you're staying, and how long you plan to stay. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Show supporting documents if asked
Have your return ticket, accommodation booking, and insurance ready. Most of the time you won't be asked, but it's good to have them accessible.
4
Receive entry stamp
If arriving from outside Schengen, the officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. This stamp is your proof of legal entry. Keep it safe.
