Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Brunei. Immigration officers at Brunei International Airport check this at the counter — they don't enforce the 6-month rule for Finnish passport holders.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Brunei
Immigration at Brunei Airport asks for a confirmed onward ticket before they stamp you in. Have your printed or digital booking ready — they check this consistently, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked flight out.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed or digital hotel confirmation for your entire stay. Immigration officers rarely ask for it, but if you're staying with a friend, have their contact details and address written down.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to at least 500 BND (or equivalent in cash or card) for your trip. Immigration doesn't routinely check this for Finnish passport holders, but it's smart to have a bank statement or card ready.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Brunei immigration will deny entry if your passport has less than 6 months validity from your date of entry. No exceptions. Check your passport now — if it's close, renew before you book.
No visa needed, but have your documents ready
You don't need a visa, but immigration may ask for your return ticket and accommodation details. Keep them accessible on your phone or printed.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Brunei International Airport (BWN)
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration'. There are separate queues for foreigners and Bruneian citizens. Join the foreign passport queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp you in, and you're done. The process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
2
Land border entry (from Malaysia)
If arriving by road from Sarawak or Sabah, you'll go through immigration at the border checkpoint. Same requirements: passport with 6 months validity, blank page, and onward ticket. The process is similar to the airport but can be slower during peak hours.
