Finnish passport holders can enter Moldova without a visa for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This has been the case since 2014, and nothing changes in 2025. Just show up at Chișinău International Airport with your passport and you're good to go.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the full period you plan to stay in Moldova. Moldova does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date — just cover your stay. Airlines may still enforce the 6-month rule, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Moldova
Immigration officers at Chișinău Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave Moldova within your 90-day visa-free window. A bus or train ticket to Romania or Ukraine also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number is enough. Booking.com or Airbnb printouts are fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Moldovan law requires visitors to have at least 10 EUR per day of stay. Carry cash in euros or US dollars, or have a bank statement showing sufficient balance. ATMs in Chișinău dispense Moldovan lei, but cards work at most hotels and restaurants.Recommended
Transnistria entry note
If you plan to visit Transnistria, you'll cross a de facto border. Moldovan border control does not stamp you out, but Transnistrian guards will give you a separate slip. Keep that slip — you need to return it when leaving Transnistria. If you lose it, expect delays and questions.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
The 6-month validity rule is not a suggestion. Airlines check it at check-in, and Moldovan border guards check it at entry. If your passport expires in 5 months, you will not be allowed to board or enter. Renew early.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Chișinău International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Border Control' (it's a small airport, you can't miss it). There are separate queues for EU/EEA and other passports — join the EU/EEA line. Hand over your passport, look at the camera, and wait for the stamp. Takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
2
Present your passport
The officer will check your passport validity and may ask your purpose of visit (tourism, business, transit). Answer honestly. They rarely ask for supporting documents, but have your return ticket and accommodation ready just in case.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the entry date and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before walking away — if it shows a shorter period, ask politely for correction.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel for nothing to declare, red channel for goods over €10,000 or restricted items. Then you're in the arrivals hall.

Frequently asked questions

No, you cannot extend the 90-day visa-free stay. If you want to stay longer, you need to apply for a temporary residence permit at the Bureau for Migration and Asylum in Chișinău before your 90 days expire. This requires a valid reason (work, study, family reunion) and costs around €50-100 in state fees.
No, not for stays under 90 days. Registration is only required for stays longer than 90 days, and your host or hotel usually handles it. If you're staying in a private apartment, the owner should register you within 3 days — but in practice, this is rarely enforced for short visits.
Yes, absolutely. Land borders at Leușeni (from Romania) and Otaci (from Ukraine) are straightforward. The same visa-free rules apply. Expect slightly longer queues at peak times, especially on weekends. Have your passport ready and answer the officer's questions clearly.
You will be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling — it takes about 2-3 weeks in Finland.
No, Finnish passport holders can enter Transnistria (the breakaway region) visa-free for up to 45 days. You just need to register with the Transnistrian migration office within 3 days of arrival if staying longer than 24 hours. The registration is free and takes 10 minutes at the office in Tiraspol or Bender.
Yes, you can work remotely for a foreign employer while in Moldova visa-free. The 90-day stay limit still applies. If you want to work for a Moldovan company, you need a work permit and residence permit — that's a separate process.
Always carry your passport (or a certified copy) with you. Police can ask for ID at any time. A driver's license is not accepted as ID. Keep a photocopy of your passport's main page and entry stamp separately — if you lose the original, it makes replacement much easier.
