Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Nigeria eVisa
Apply for a Nigeria eVisa at the official Immigration Service portal before you travel. The eVisa is a single-entry visa valid for up to 90 days. Processing takes 3–5 business days, so apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Finnish passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Nigeria. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Lagos and Abuja airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready. If you don't have one, you may be refused entry or asked to buy one on the spot.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Nigeria. Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you're arriving without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a bank statement or enough cash (Nigerian Naira or USD) to cover your stay. Immigration rarely asks, but if you look underprepared, they may question your ability to support yourself.Recommended
eVisa processing can be slow
Apply at least 2 weeks before your trip. The portal sometimes has glitches — if you don't hear back within 5 business days, follow up via the portal's contact form.
Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory
You must carry your yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card). Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to portal.immigration.gov.ng, create an account, fill in your details, upload a passport photo and passport scan, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days, but can be longer during peak periods.
2
Receive and print eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get a PDF by email. Print at least one copy and save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at a Nigerian airport
Most flights land at Lagos (LOS) or Abuja (ABV). Go to the immigration hall, join the queue for 'eVisa holders', and present your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket. The officer will stamp your passport.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. You may be asked to show your yellow fever vaccination card at health screening before exiting.
