Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Finnish passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Panama. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Panamanian law, but airlines may check for at least 6 months.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Panama
Immigration officers at Tocumen International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket within your 90-day visa-free period. Airlines check this before boarding, so have a printed or digital copy ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel reservation or a letter from your host ready. Officers rarely ask for it, but if you arrive without a clear place to stay, they may question your plans.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough money for your stay. Panama does not publish a fixed minimum, but $500–$1,000 USD is a safe benchmark for a short trip.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires within 6 months of your entry date, you will not be allowed to fly. Renew early.
No visa needed, but have documents ready
Immigration at Tocumen can be quick, but they may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking. Keep digital copies on your phone.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before you fly
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket. Save a screenshot of your flight booking and first night's hotel confirmation on your phone.
2
Arrive at Tocumen International Airport (PTY)
Most flights from Europe land at Tocumen. Follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration). There are two queues: one for Panamanians/residents, one for foreigners. Join the foreigners queue.
3
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day entry. No visa fee.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel for nothing to declare, red channel if you have goods over $500 or restricted items.
