Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Senegal. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Senegal
Immigration officers at Blaise Diagne International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone — they won't let you through without it.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but if they do and you have nothing, you'll be sent to a secondary interview that can take an hour.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or cash equivalent to at least 200,000 XOF (about €300) available. Officers ask for this less often than the return ticket, but it's a standard question for first-time visitors.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Senegalese immigration requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. Airlines also check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you will be denied travel.
No visa, no fee, no form
Finnish passport holders enter Senegal visa-free for up to 90 days. There is no visa fee, no eVisa, and no arrival card to fill out. Just your passport and an onward ticket.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS)
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for foreign nationals and Senegalese citizens.
2
Present your passport and boarding pass
Hand over your passport and the boarding pass from your inbound flight. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and length of stay.
3
Answer questions if asked
Common questions: 'How long are you staying?', 'Where are you staying?', 'Do you have a return ticket?'. Answer clearly and have your hotel address and onward ticket ready.
4
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the number of days granted (usually 90). Check the stamp before walking away.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There is no visa fee or arrival card to fill out.
