Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Tunisia. Airlines at Helsinki and other EU hubs check this before boarding — they won't let you fly if your passport expires before you leave Tunisia.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Tunisia
Immigration officers at Tunis-Carthage Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound booking ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Tunisia. Border officers occasionally ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have access to cash or a credit card that shows you can support yourself. Officers rarely ask for this for short stays, but having a bank statement or card handy avoids delays.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the day you arrive in Tunisia, not the day you leave. If it expires sooner, you'll be turned away.
Overstaying the 90-day limit
Overstaying even by a day can result in a fine and a note in your immigration record. If you need to stay longer, leave before day 90 or apply for a proper visa in advance.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Print or save on your phone: return ticket, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance. Also grab a local eSIM or SIM so you're connected on arrival.
2
Arrive at Tunis-Carthage or other airport
At the airport, follow signs to 'Passport Control' (Passeports). There are separate queues for Tunisian nationals and foreigners. Join the 'Foreigners' line.
3
Present your passport for stamping
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your validity, may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day entry. No visa fee, no forms to fill.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to leave the airport. Keep your passport handy — there may be random checks outside.
