Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Ukraine. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Ukrainian law, but airlines may enforce a 3-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ukraine
Border officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at passport control. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight or bus ticket out of Ukraine ready — they may also check that your onward travel fits within the 90-day visa-free limit.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host with their address and contact number is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers can request evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. Have a bank statement or credit card showing at least $50 per day of your trip — cash or card, either works.Recommended
War situation — travel at your own risk
Ukraine is under a state of martial law due to the ongoing war with Russia. Airspace is partially closed, and some regions are dangerous. Check your government's travel advisory before booking. Travel insurance may not cover war-related incidents.
Entry stamp check
Always check your entry stamp before leaving the passport control booth. If it's missing or illegible, ask the officer to re-stamp it. A missing stamp can cause problems when you leave.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at any Ukrainian border checkpoint
You'll go through passport control at the airport (Kyiv Boryspil, Lviv, Odesa) or at land borders. The officer will check your passport, ask your purpose of visit and length of stay, and stamp you in. Have your return ticket and accommodation details ready just in case.
2
Receive your entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry. This stamp determines your 90-day allowance. Check the stamp before leaving the booth — if it's smudged or missing, ask for a correction immediately.
3
Proceed to baggage claim and customs
After passport control, collect your bags and walk through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Keep your passport and boarding pass accessible until you're outside the arrivals area.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free stay is strictly 90 days within any 180-day period. Overstaying can result in fines, deportation, or a ban from re-entering. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a temporary residence permit at a Ukrainian migration office before your 90 days expire.
Yes, if you stay longer than 30 days. Your hotel or host must register you with the State Migration Service within 30 days of arrival. If you're staying in a private apartment, you or your host need to do this in person. Failure to register can lead to fines.
You will be denied entry at the border. Renew your passport before traveling. There are no exceptions for emergency travel.
Yes. Finnish passport holders can enter Ukraine at any land border checkpoint from Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, or Moldova. The same visa-free rules apply. Expect longer queues at land borders, especially during holidays.
No, it's not mandatory for entry. But it's strongly recommended. Medical evacuation or hospitalization can be expensive. Some travel insurance policies exclude Ukraine due to the war — check your policy carefully before you go.
You'll face a fine of 1,700 to 5,100 Ukrainian hryvnia (roughly €40–€120) and possible deportation. Repeated overstays can lead to a ban from entering Ukraine for up to 3 years. Always track your days carefully.
Technically, the visa-free regime is for tourism, business, and short-term visits — not for employment. Remote work for a foreign employer is a gray area. If you plan to work for a Ukrainian company, you need a work visa. For digital nomads, it's generally tolerated but not officially permitted.
