This visa-free arrangement applies in 2025. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Hungary and have at least one blank page for the entry stamp.

Even though Hungary says 'max 90 days', you must also consider any time spent in other Schengen countries in the previous 180 days. Use the EU's short‑stay calculator or keep a travel diary to avoid accidentally overstaying.
6‑month passport rule confirmed
Although some Schengen countries accept passports valid for 3 months beyond departure, Hungary sticks to a stricter 6‑month validity from entry. If your passport expires sooner, you could be turned away at the border. Plan ahead and renew if needed.

Arrival at Schengen border
When you land at Budapest Airport (BUD) or any Schengen entry point in Hungary, follow the signs for 'Non-EU' or 'All Passports' to the border control queue.

Present passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer will likely ask your purpose of visit (e.g., 'Tourism'), accommodation details, and return travel plans. Answer clearly and briefly.

Passport stamping
If cleared, the officer stamps your passport with the date of entry and the number of days you're allowed to stay (usually 90). Check the stamp before stepping away – if it seems wrong, politely ask for clarification.

Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim (if applicable) and then to Customs. There are no further formalities for short‑stay visitors.
