No visa-on-arrival or e-visa
Ghanaian passport holders cannot get a visa at the airport or online. You must apply at the Austrian Embassy in Accra before you travel. Arriving without a visa means you will be denied entry and sent back on the next flight.
Schengen area rules apply
Austria is part of the Schengen zone. A visa for Austria lets you travel to 26 other European countries for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. But you must enter through Austria or have Austria as your main destination.

Contact the embassy by phone or email to schedule a visa appointment. Slots can fill up, so do this at least 3–4 weeks before your planned travel.

Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents: passport, application form, photos, flight itinerary, hotel booking, insurance, bank statements, and any additional supporting papers.

Attend the in-person interview
Go to the embassy at the appointed time. You will submit your documents, pay the visa fee (around €80 for adults), and possibly answer a few questions about your trip.

Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days, but can extend to 30–45 days during peak seasons. Track your application via the embassy or VFS Global if they handle it.

Collect your passport with visa
Once approved, you will be notified to pick up your passport. Check the visa sticker for correct dates and your name. If anything is wrong, ask for correction immediately.

Arrive in Austria and pass immigration
At Vienna Airport or any Schengen entry point, present your passport with the visa, your return ticket, and proof of accommodation. The officer may ask about your plans — answer clearly and briefly.
