No visa on arrival or e-visa
Bulgaria does not offer visa-on-arrival or e-visa for Ghanaian passport holders. You must apply at the embassy in Accra before you travel. Arriving without a visa means you will be denied entry and sent back.
Bulgaria is not yet fully in Schengen
Bulgaria is in the process of joining the Schengen Area but is not fully integrated yet. A Bulgarian visa allows you to visit Bulgaria and Romania, but not other Schengen countries. If you plan to visit other EU countries, you need a separate Schengen visa.

Gather your documents
Collect your passport, completed application form, passport photos, flight itinerary, hotel bookings, travel insurance, bank statements, and any other supporting documents. Make photocopies of everything.

Submit your application
Take or send your documents to the Bulgarian embassy in Accra. You may need to book an appointment first. Pay the visa fee (around €80 for adults, less for children). Processing usually takes 15–30 days.

The embassy will review your application. They may call you for an interview or ask for additional documents. Track your application status by phone or email.

Collect your passport
Once approved, collect your passport with the visa sticker. Check the visa dates and validity carefully. If rejected, you'll get a letter explaining why.

Travel to Bulgaria
At Sofia Airport or any Bulgarian border, present your passport with the visa, return ticket, and accommodation proof. The officer may ask about your plans. Answer clearly and honestly.
