Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Oman eVisa at the Royal Oman Police eVisa portal before you fly. The visa is typically processed within 24 hours and allows a stay of up to 30 days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover your stay
Your Greek passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Oman. Airlines check this at check-in, and immigration officers enforce it strictly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers in Oman routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Hotel booking confirmations or a letter of invitation from your host in Oman can speed up the immigration process. Officers may ask for it if your stay seems unclear.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough funds for your stay. Oman does not publish a fixed minimum, but having around 500 OMR (approx. 1,300 USD) is a safe buffer.Recommended
Visa on arrival is straightforward
Greek passport holders have been getting visa on arrival in Oman for years. No need to apply in advance — just show up with a valid passport and pay the fee. The process at Muscat airport takes about 10-15 minutes.
Cash is king at land borders
At land borders (like Hatta from UAE), card machines are less reliable. Bring OMR 20 in cash. USD is also accepted but you'll get change in OMR at a poor rate.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Muscat International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' counters before passport control. There are separate queues for visa-on-arrival and pre-arranged visas. Join the visa-on-arrival line.
2
Fill out the visa application form
A short form asking for your name, passport number, flight details, and hotel address. You can fill it at the counter or use a kiosk. Keep it simple — no complex questions.
3
Pay the visa fee
Hand over your passport and the completed form to the immigration officer. Pay OMR 20 (about 50 USD) in cash or by credit card. Get a receipt.
4
Receive your visa sticker
The officer will affix a visa sticker to a blank page in your passport. Check the validity dates — usually 30 days from issue. Keep the sticker clean and dry.
5
Proceed to passport control
Walk to the passport control booth. Present your passport with the visa sticker. The officer may ask for your return ticket or hotel booking — have them ready on your phone. Get stamped and you're in.

Frequently asked questions

The visa on arrival for Greek passport holders is valid for 30 days from the date of issue. You cannot extend it — if you need longer, you must apply for a different visa type before traveling.
Yes, the visa on arrival is also available at land borders like the Hatta border crossing from the UAE. The process is the same — fill a form, pay OMR 20, get the sticker. But note that the border crossing can be busy on weekends.
You will be denied entry. The 6-month rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling. If you're in a hurry, check if the Greek embassy in Oman can issue an emergency passport, but that's a last resort.
Yes, most immigration counters at Muscat airport accept Visa and Mastercard. But cash (Omani Rial or USD) is more reliable — card machines can be down. Bring OMR 20 in cash just in case.
If you stay airside and your layover is under 6 hours, no visa is needed. For longer layovers or if you want to leave the airport, you'll need a transit visa or a visa on arrival. Check with your airline for specific rules.
Overstaying costs OMR 10 per day (about 26 USD). You'll have to pay at the airport before departure. Serious overstays can lead to a ban. Set a reminder on your phone a few days before your visa expires.
Yes, you can apply for an e-visa through the Royal Oman Police website. It costs about the same (OMR 20) and takes 2-3 business days. The advantage is you skip the queue at the airport. But the visa on arrival is simpler for most travelers.
