Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Greek passport needs to be valid for the full 90 days you plan to stay in Paraguay. Airlines at departure check this before letting you board.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration at Silvio Pettirossi Airport asks for a confirmed onward ticket out of Paraguay. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough money for your stay. Around $500 USD for the trip is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Paraguay, not from your departure date. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before you travel.
No visa extensions available
The 90-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for a different visa type before your 90 days are up. Overstaying can lead to fines and entry bans.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date) and that you have at least one blank page. Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save all confirmations as screenshots or PDFs on your phone. Consider getting travel insurance and a local eSIM.
2
Arrive at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU) or other entry point
Most travellers fly into Asunción. After landing, follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration). There are usually two queues: one for Paraguayan citizens and one for foreigners. Join the foreigners queue.
3
Present your passport and documents to the immigration officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation booking. Answer any questions clearly. They will stamp your passport with a 90-day entry permit. The process is usually quick — 5 to 10 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, go to the baggage claim area, then walk through customs. There's usually a green channel for nothing to declare and a red channel for goods to declare. If you have nothing to declare, go through green.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free entry is not extendable. You must leave before the 90 days are up. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to apply for a different visa type before your current permission expires.
Overstaying can result in fines and potential entry bans. The exact fine depends on how long you overstay. It's best to leave on time or apply for an extension before your 90 days are up (though extensions are not available for visa-free entries).
No, Paraguay does not require a yellow fever vaccine for entry from Greece. However, if you've recently been in a country with yellow fever, you may need proof of vaccination. Check with your doctor before travel.
Yes, you can enter Paraguay by land from any neighbouring country. The same visa-free rules apply — just present your passport at the border crossing. Common entry points include Ciudad del Este (from Brazil) and Encarnación (from Argentina).
No, there is no arrival declaration required for Greek passport holders. You simply present your passport at immigration and they will stamp you in. No pre-registration or online form is needed.
The local currency is the Paraguayan guaraní (PYG). US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas and larger cities, but you'll get better rates using local currency. ATMs are available in Asunción and other major towns. Credit cards are accepted in hotels and upscale restaurants.
Technically, the visa-free entry is for tourism and short visits. Working remotely for a foreign employer is a grey area. If you plan to work, consider a digital nomad visa if Paraguay offers one. For short stays, most travellers do it without issues, but it's not officially permitted.
