Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Greek passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Ukraine. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Ukrainian law, but airlines at Athens and other EU hubs may still enforce a 3-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ukraine
Border officers at Boryspil and Lviv airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound booking ready — a flexible ticket or a cheap bus/rail booking to a Schengen country works fine.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a Ukrainian host with their contact details covers this. Airbnb bookings are accepted.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Ukraine does not enforce a fixed minimum, but officers may ask for bank statements or cash to confirm you can cover your stay. Having €50–€100 per day in a bank account or in euros/hryvnia cash avoids delays.Recommended
Overstaying is serious
Do not overstay your 90-day visa-free period. Fines start at around 1,700 UAH (about €45) and can increase with the length of overstay. You may also be banned from re-entering Ukraine for up to 3 years.
Keep digital copies of all documents
Save photos of your passport, visa (if applicable), return ticket, and accommodation confirmations in a secure cloud folder or email. If you lose your documents, these copies will help at the embassy and with local authorities.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date) and ensure you have at least 1 blank page. Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Print or screenshot confirmations. Consider buying travel insurance and a local eSIM.
2
Arrive at the airport and check in
At the airline check-in counter, present your passport and return ticket. The airline may also ask for proof of accommodation. They are responsible for ensuring you meet entry requirements, so be ready.
3
Go through passport control in Ukraine
At any Ukrainian airport (Kyiv Boryspil, Lviv, Odesa, etc.), join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. This usually takes 1-2 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. Unless you have goods to declare, use the green channel. You're now free to enter Ukraine.

Frequently asked questions

No, the visa-free stay cannot be extended. You must leave Ukraine before the 90-day limit. Overstaying can result in fines starting at 1,700 UAH (about €45) and increase with the length of overstay, plus a possible ban from re-entering for up to 3 years. If you need to stay longer, apply for a temporary residence permit at the State Migration Service before your 90 days expire.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling.
If you stay longer than 30 days, you must register with the State Migration Service. Hotels usually handle this for you. If you're staying in a private apartment, you need to register yourself within 30 days of arrival. Failure to register can lead to fines of up to 1,700 UAH.
Not mandatory for visa-free entry, but strongly recommended. A simple accident or illness can cost thousands of hryvnias. Insurance also covers trip cancellation, lost luggage, and emergency evacuation. Many travellers buy a policy for peace of mind.
Yes, you can enter Ukraine by land from Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Moldova, and Belarus. The same visa-free rules apply. At land border crossings, you'll go through passport control and may face longer queues. Have your documents ready.
Report the loss immediately to the local police and get a police report. Then contact the Greek Embassy in Kyiv (or the nearest consulate) to apply for an emergency travel document. You'll need the police report, a passport photo, and proof of identity. The embassy can issue a temporary passport to get you home.
As of 2026, there are no COVID-19 testing or vaccination requirements for entry. However, check the latest travel advisories from the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ukrainian government before departure, as rules can change.
