Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Land at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and head to the visa counter before immigration. Pay the fee in cash (USD, EUR, or NPR) — $30 for 15 days, $50 for 30 days, $125 for 90 days. Have two passport-size photos ready.Check visa feesRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your Hong Kong passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival in Nepal. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Kathmandu airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot of your booking ready — they may also check it at airline check-in.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a screenshot of your booking. Immigration rarely asks for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Financial evidence
Officials may ask how you'll fund your stay. A bank statement showing at least $200–$300 or a credit card with available limit is enough. Most travellers never get asked, but it's safer to have it.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa fee must be paid in cash — no credit or debit cards. Bring crisp US dollars (issued after 2006) or euros. ATMs are available after immigration but charge high fees.
Photo booth available
If you forget your passport photos, there's a photo booth near the visa counter at Kathmandu airport. It costs about $2 and prints 4 photos.

What happens at the border

1
Land at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM)
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival'. You'll pass a row of self-service kiosks — use one to fill in your details and print a receipt. If the kiosks are down, grab a paper form from the counter.
2
Pay the visa fee
Take your printed receipt or paper form to the cashier counter. Pay in USD, EUR, or NPR. Keep the payment receipt.
3
Queue at immigration
Hand your passport, photos, and payment receipt to the immigration officer. They'll stick the visa in your passport and stamp you in. This queue can take 20–45 minutes depending on flight arrivals.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to go.
