Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get a visa on arrival at Presidente Nicolau dos Santos Lobato International Airport (DIL) in Dili. Pay $30 USD in cash for a 30-day single-entry visa — bring exact change as the immigration counter rarely has change. Have your return ticket and hotel booking printed out; the officer may ask to see both before stamping you in.Required
Valid passport
Original passport with at least 6 months validity
Your Hong Kong passport must have at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Timor-Leste. The immigration officer at Dili airport checks this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding in Hong Kong.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
You need a printed or digital copy of a return or onward ticket showing you leave Timor-Leste within your visa validity. Airlines at Hong Kong International Airport check this before issuing your boarding pass — without it, you won't fly.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from a host in Timor-Leste ready. Immigration at Dili airport sometimes asks for this, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or a bank statement showing sufficient funds for your stay. Timor-Leste uses USD as its official currency, and ATMs are scarce outside Dili — bring enough cash to cover your trip.Recommended
Cash only for visa fee
The USD 30 visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash. No credit cards, no other currencies. Have the exact amount ready to speed things up.
No online pre-registration needed
Unlike some countries, Timor-Leste does not require any online form or e-visa application for Hong Kong passport holders. Just show up with your documents and cash.

What happens at the border

1
Land at Dili Airport or enter at the land border
At Dili Airport, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' after baggage claim. At the Batugade land border (from Indonesia), the same process applies. Queue at the immigration counter.
2
Present your documents and pay the fee
Hand over your passport, completed arrival card (given on the plane or at the border), and USD 30. The officer will process the visa and stamp it into your passport.
3
Collect your passport and proceed
Once stamped, you're free to enter. The visa is valid for 30 days from the date of issue. Make a note of the expiry date.
