Visa on arrival
Hong Kong passport holders can get a visa on arrival at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and other major entry points. The visa is issued at the immigration counter — pay the fee (NT$600 for single-entry, NT$1,000 for multiple-entry) in cash. You'll need a completed arrival card and a passport photo.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your Hong Kong passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Taiwan. Taiwan does not enforce the 6-month validity rule for Hong Kong passport holders — just make sure it covers your trip dates.Required
Return or onward ticket
Recommended
Immigration officers at Taoyuan Airport rarely ask for a return ticket, but budget airlines may check at check-in. Have a printed or digital copy of your onward flight booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Recommended
Hotel bookings or a friend's address in Taiwan are not routinely checked, but having a printed confirmation helps if asked. Airbnb bookings are accepted.Recommended
No arrival card needed
Hong Kong passport holders do not need to fill out an arrival declaration form. Just walk up to immigration with your passport and ticket.
6-month passport validity is strict
Count 6 months from the day you land, not your departure date. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before you travel — you will be turned away at immigration.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Taiwan airport
You'll land at Taoyuan (TPE), Kaohsiung (KHH), or another international airport. Follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'.
2
Join the foreign passport queue
Look for the lane marked 'Foreign Passports' or 'All Passports'. Hong Kong passport holders use this lane, not the e-gate.
3
Present your passport and ticket
Hand over your passport and return/onward ticket. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer clearly.
4
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. Check the stamp for the correct date before leaving the counter.
5
Collect luggage and exit
Proceed to baggage claim, then customs. No arrival declaration form is needed for Hong Kong passport holders.
