What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.gov.az and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, a digital photo, and your travel dates. Pay the fee (around $25 USD) by card. Processing takes about 3 business days. You'll receive the visa as a PDF by email.
2
Print or save the eVisa
Print a paper copy of the eVisa and also save it on your phone. Immigration at Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport will ask to see it when you arrive.
3
Prepare your documents for arrival
Have your passport, eVisa printout, return ticket, and hotel booking ready. At passport control, hand over your passport and eVisa. The officer may ask a few questions (purpose of visit, where you're staying). Answer clearly and briefly.
4
Go through passport control
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control' for foreign nationals. The queue can be 15-30 minutes. Once stamped, you're free to enter. Keep your passport safe — you'll need it for hotel check-ins.

Frequently asked questions

Processing usually takes 3 business days. You can also pay extra for urgent processing (1 business day) for about $50 USD. Apply at least a week before your trip to be safe.
No, the eVisa does not allow extensions. You must leave before the 30-day stay limit expires. Overstaying can result in fines and future entry bans.
You must renew your passport before applying for the eVisa. The 6-month validity is strictly enforced. If your passport expires sooner, your eVisa will be rejected.
If you stay airside and don't pass through passport control, you don't need a visa. But if you plan to leave the airport or have a layover longer than 24 hours, you need the eVisa.
No. Hungarian passport holders must have an eVisa regardless of other visas. There is no visa waiver for Schengen or US visa holders.
Immigration officers at Baku airport will ask to see your eVisa. Having it on your phone is usually accepted, but a printed copy is safer. Without it, you may be denied entry.
It is not officially required for the eVisa application, but immigration may ask for proof of insurance. Even if not checked, it's strongly recommended — medical costs can be high.
