RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for a visitor visa
You need a visitor visa to enter Canada. Apply online through the IRCC portal — processing times vary from a few weeks to several months depending on your home country. Submit your application well before your planned travel date.Apply for visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Hungarian passport must be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Canada. Airlines and border officers check this at check-in and upon arrival. No minimum validity beyond your stay is required.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Canada
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof that you'll leave Canada before your visa expires. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or onward ticket ready. Airlines also check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb receipt, or a letter from your host with their address and contact info. Officers may ask where you're staying on arrival. A simple booking printout works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements, a credit card, or cash showing you have enough money for your stay. There's no fixed minimum, but expect to show at least CAD $1,000–$2,000 for a short trip. Officers can ask for this at the border.Recommended
Apply early — processing can be slow
Canadian visa processing times vary. During summer or holiday peaks, it can take 6–8 weeks. Don't book non-refundable flights until your visa is approved.
Biometrics are valid for 10 years
If you've given biometrics for a previous Canadian visa or application within the last 10 years, you may not need to do it again. Check your IRCC account.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your visitor visa online
Go to the IRCC website and create an account. Fill out the application form, upload your documents (passport scan, photo, travel history, proof of funds, itinerary). Pay the CAD $100 visa fee plus CAD $85 biometrics fee online.
2
Give biometrics at the VAC in Budapest
After submitting, you'll get a biometric instruction letter. Book an appointment at the Canada Visa Application Centre in Budapest (address: Váci út 19, 1134). Bring your passport and the letter. They'll take your fingerprints and photo.
3
Wait for processing
Standard processing time is 2–4 weeks, but can be longer during peak season. Check your IRCC account for updates. You may be asked for additional documents or an interview.
4
Receive your visa and travel
If approved, you'll get a visa counterfoil in your passport (usually valid for multiple entries up to 10 years, but each stay limited to 6 months). Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.
5
Arrive at a Canadian airport
At immigration, present your passport with visa, return ticket, and accommodation proof. The officer may ask about your plans. Be honest and concise. You'll get a stamp allowing up to 6 months.
