Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Hungarian passport needs to be valid only for the length of your stay in Hong Kong. Airlines sometimes enforce the 6-month rule — if your passport expires within 6 months, carry proof of your return flight to avoid boarding issues.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Hong Kong
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket at the counter. A flight booking out of Hong Kong within 90 days works — a bus or ferry ticket to Macau or mainland China also counts.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers rarely ask for it, but having a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host covers you if they do. A simple booking.com reservation printout is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Hong Kong doesn't publish a minimum amount, but carrying around 3,000 HKD in cash or a credit card statement shows you're not arriving broke. ATMs are everywhere in the city.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry. If it expires sooner, you will be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at immigration. Check your passport now.
Overstaying has serious consequences
Overstaying even by a day can result in a fine of up to HKD 5,000 (approx. EUR 600) and a ban from re-entering Hong Kong for up to 2 years. Set a reminder to leave before your 90 days are up.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Hong Kong International Airport
Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Immigration'. There are separate queues for Hong Kong residents and visitors. Join the 'Visitors' queue.
2
Present your passport and boarding pass
Hand over your Hungarian passport and your boarding pass. The officer will check your passport validity and may ask about your stay duration and accommodation.
3
Answer any questions
Be ready to state how long you're staying (up to 90 days), where you're staying (hotel name/address), and your reason for visiting (tourism, business, etc.). Keep it brief and honest.
4
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay period. Check the stamp before walking away — it shows the date you must leave by.
5
Collect luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, go to the baggage claim carousel for your flight, then walk through customs. There's nothing to declare for most tourists.
