Italy entry requirements for Hungary passport holders
Hungarian passport holders can travel to Italy visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This has been the case for years and remains unchanged in 2026. Just make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Valid passport Must be valid for your entire stay in Italy | Your Hungarian passport only needs to be valid for the duration of your stay in Italy. Schengen rules do not require 6 months of remaining validity for EU nationals. Airlines rarely check this for intra-Schengen flights, but carry a passport that won't expire during your trip. | Required |
| Return or onward ticket Proof of departure from the Schengen area | Immigration officers at Italian airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you'll leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Budget airlines like Ryanair and Wizz Air also check this at check-in. Have a printed or digital copy ready. | Required |
| Proof of accommodation Hotel booking or host invitation | Border officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a formal letter from a friend/host with their address and contact number. A screenshot on your phone works fine. | Recommended |
| Proof of funds Show you can support yourself during your stay | Italian immigration can request proof of sufficient funds — roughly €50–€100 per day of your stay. A bank statement from the last 30 days, a credit card with a decent limit, or cash in euros all satisfy this. I've been asked twice at Fiumicino; they just glanced at my card. | Recommended |
