Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Hungarian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Moldova. Moldova does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but airlines may still check for it at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Moldova
Immigration officers at Chișinău International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Moldovan immigration can request evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. Carry a bank statement or credit card showing at least €50 per day of your trip.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Moldovan immigration will deny entry if your passport has less than 6 months validity from your entry date. No exceptions. Check your passport expiry before booking flights.
Transnistria entry rules
If you plan to visit Transnistria, you must register with local authorities if staying more than 24 hours. The registration is free and done at the border or in Tiraspol. Failure to register can result in fines or deportation.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Chișinău International Airport
You'll queue at passport control. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp you in, and you're done. The whole process usually takes 2-5 minutes per person.
2
Land border crossings
If arriving by bus, car, or train from Romania or Ukraine, you'll go through a land border checkpoint. Same rules apply: passport, return ticket, and sometimes proof of accommodation. Expect slightly longer queues at busy times.
3
Registration with local authorities
If you stay more than 90 days, you must register with the Bureau for Migration and Asylum in Chișinău within 30 days of arrival. For stays under 90 days, no registration is needed.
