Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Hungarian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Mauritius. No minimum validity period beyond your departure date is required by Mauritian immigration, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Mauritius
Immigration officers at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have your booking confirmation printed or saved on your phone — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a copy of your hotel reservation, Airbnb confirmation, or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers may ask for it if you look unsure about where you're staying.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to at least 100 USD per day of your stay — either in cash, on a card, or as a bank statement. Immigration rarely asks, but they can deny entry if you can't show means of support.Recommended
No visa needed, but don't wing it
Even though it's visa-free, immigration officers can still deny entry if you can't show a return ticket or look like you might overstay. Have your documents ready.
eSIM is a game-changer
Get an Airalo eSIM before you fly. It activates the moment you land — no need to queue at the airport for a local SIM. Data plans start at a few dollars.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU)
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration'. Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp you in for up to 90 days. The whole process usually takes 15–30 minutes.
2
Prepare documents before the counter
While queuing, have your passport open to the photo page and your return ticket visible on your phone. If you have a hotel booking, have that ready too. Officers may ask for it.
3
Exit and baggage claim
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's nothing special to declare for most tourists. Green channel if you have nothing to declare.

No, as long as you stay airside and don't pass through immigration. If you need to leave the airport, you'll need to meet the visa-free entry requirements.
You'll likely be denied boarding by your airline. Even if you get to Mauritius, immigration can refuse entry. Renew your passport first.

Technically, the visa-free entry is for tourism only. Remote work is a grey area. If you're just checking emails, it's fine. If you're actively working for a foreign company, consider the Mauritius Premium Visa (longer stay, work allowed).
You'll be fined per day overstayed. In serious cases, you could be banned from re-entering Mauritius for a period. Don't risk it.
