The visa fee must be paid in cash — no cards, no mobile payments. Have 650 MZN (or about €10 in US dollars) ready in small bills. ATMs are available after immigration, but you'll need cash before that.

Arrive at immigration counter
At Maputo International Airport (MPM) or any other port of entry, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. There's usually a separate queue for visa-on-arrival applicants.

Present documents and pay fee
Hand over your passport, completed arrival card (given on the plane), return ticket, and accommodation proof. Pay the 650 MZN fee in cash. The officer will issue a visa sticker and stamp you in.

Collect passport and proceed
The whole process takes 10–20 minutes. Check the visa sticker for your allowed stay (usually 30 days). Then head to baggage claim and customs.

Yes, you can extend it once for an additional 30 days at the immigration office in Maputo (Avenida 24 de Julho). The extension costs around 1,000 MZN (about €15). You must apply before your initial 30 days expire.
Visa on arrival is available at all international airports (Maputo, Beira, Nampula, Pemba, Tete) and major land borders (Ressano Garcia, Lebombo, etc.). Smaller crossings may not have the facility — check ahead.
