Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Uganda eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for your Uganda eVisa at the official portal at least 2 weeks before departure. The eVisa costs $50 USD for a single-entry tourist visa and is processed within 3-5 business days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Entebbe will stamp the visa on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have 6 months validity
Your Hungarian passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Uganda. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Entebbe International Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready. If you cannot show one, you may be refused entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Have a hotel booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Uganda. Immigration may ask where you are staying, and having a printed address speeds up the process.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry evidence of sufficient funds for your stay — a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $300 USD equivalent. While not always checked, it helps if the officer asks.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine required
Uganda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever risk. Even if you're coming directly from Hungary, it's strongly recommended — carry your yellow card. No vaccine, no entry.
eVisa processing time
Apply at least 1 week before departure. Processing takes 2–5 business days, but delays happen. Don't wait until the last minute.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to visas.immigration.go.ug, fill in the application, upload your passport photo and passport data page, and pay the fee (around $50 for a single-entry tourist visa). Processing takes 2–5 business days. You'll receive an approval letter by email — print it or save it on your phone.
2
Pack your documents
Before you leave, gather: your printed eVisa approval, passport with 6+ months validity, return ticket, first-night hotel booking, and travel insurance details. Keep copies in your carry-on.
3
Arrival at Entebbe or land border
At Entebbe International Airport (or a land border like Busia or Malaba), join the 'Visitors' queue. Hand over your passport and eVisa approval. The officer will check your passport validity, ask about your stay, and may ask for your return ticket. You'll get an entry stamp — usually valid for up to 90 days.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel, then proceed through customs. There's a green channel for nothing to declare and a red channel for goods over $500 or restricted items. You're free to go.
